New to Thriller, Where Should I Start?

I want to start reading thriller novels, possibly also horror, but I’m not sure where to begin. Of course the immediate thought is Stephen King because of his popularity but I’m not sure if that is a great starting point or not. I’m a fan of very eloquent styles with heavy imagery. But I’m open to most things and I would love some recommendations!

You could try Gone Girl, it was one of the first thrillers I read and it's just a very good book overall. But there's not one specific place you absolutely have to start from, I'd say just pick up whatever looks interesting to you.

Thriller is a pretty broad genre, so there are books for every taste. If you want to try psychological thrillers, I suggest anything by Gillian Flynn, such as Gone Girl, as rumik suggested, or Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson. If you want an edge-of-your-seat thriller, I highly recommend No Exit by Taylor Adams. Another one I recently read and loved, that I would describe as mystery thriller, is Lock Every Door by Riley Sager.

I’m not quite sure if these could be classified as thrillers, but if you’re looking for spooky stories with heavy imagery then classic gothic fiction is the way to go! Edgar Allen Poe’s short stories are excellent! Shirley Jackson is another writer to check out! She writes modern gothic horror including The Haunting of Hill House which inspired the Netflix series.

Steven King has some great books don't get me wrong, but don't start there you may get one of his wired books and never read another thriller again! I love the Maggie O'Dell series #1 was A perfect Evil
#2 Split Second
#3 The Soul Catcher
#4 Stroke Of Madness
#5 A Necessary Evil
Etc. There's 16 books but I didn't read some in order and they are still great reads! Psychological suspense is what I'd describe her at writing! Not too gross but great!

Anything by Dean Koontz fits well with thrillers; they're some of the best I've read.

Anything by Lisa Jewell! Especially The Girls in the Garden. I also just read You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen and loved it.

Hello! If you are into thriller stories, I would highly recommend David Baldacci's The Memory Man or Amos Decker series. You may also try Robert Galbraith and Lisa Garner's books.

Well for those of you looking out of thrillers, just go for Dan Brown. All of his books are damn intriguing. The first book of Dan Brown that i read was ANGELS AND DEMONS and believe me it was no less than a rollercoaster ie. full of twist, turns ,murder and mystery
