Rebuilding after a dystopia

Hey friends,
My friend was asking me recently whether there were any books/series that explored what happens after the fall of a dystopia. For example, what happened after the events of the ladybug Hunger Games? How did they rebuild society? What political or economic problems arose?
I can think of plenty of series that deal with dystopian worlds and revolutions to overthrow evil empires but I’ve not come across anything about starting again?
Would anybody be able to help?

Did you ever find any books on this topic? It sounds really interesting.
It does sound like a book I read in high school about the aftermath of radiation from a bomb. The characters develop new forms of trade rather than money and sects form, causing trouble. I cannot remember the name, though!

Probably doesn't exactly conform to your specification here, but The Road by Cormac McCarthy deals with the relationship between a father and son, and how they move through a ravaged world in an attempt to find other good guys. It is a very touching novel, one of my favourites. The emphasis is on the father/son relationship, though, as opposed to the post-apocalyptic world in which it's set.

Not found anything yet! The search goes on!

That’s on my to read list but I don’t think it would satisfy my friend’s search haha!

Oh well I tried haha. I’m jealous that you are yet to read it, it’s one of those I wish I could have that first experience with again.

I’m excited to read it! I sometimes worry that I’m going to run out of books that blow my mind so I’m also on the look out for more!

Are you still looking for recommendations?
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell eventually gets around to a post-dystopian world. You start off in the 1800s, work your way up to the future, and then return back again to the 1800s by the end of the book. It's pretty cool.
Earth Abides by George R Stewart has a similar theme, but instead of a dystopian, it was a plague which wiped out most of humanity. It deals with how people rebuild society.
If your friend is into nonfiction at all, The Knowledge by Lewis Dartnell deals directly with rebuilding after an apocalypse. I haven't read it yet, I just received it as a gift and it looks very interesting.
The last one that comes to mind is The Giver Quartet by Lois Lowry. YA fiction but a fantastic read nonetheless. The books showcase a few different types of dystopian cities, and you get to see how society rebuilds after people escape from various bad places.
Hope one or more of these fits the bill!

I have a series that does this (somewhat). It is the Giver quartet by Lois Lowry.
The Giver a dystopia/utopia.
Gathering Blue a dystopia
The Messenger what happens when a village rebuilds and old elements deep in
The Son book that ties the series together and shows how a society can move forward.

Bird Box by Josh Mallerman gives a little hint to this society building after an apocalypse. Not much, just a little bit.

Thanks! I’d heard of Bird Box but didn’t know what it was about!
