Is anyone friends with a local librarian?

In my experience, librarians have been exceptionally helpful with finding non-fiction and reference material, but I'm wondering if anyone has any good stories of librarians giving them fiction recommendations that aren't typical bestseller books. And, if anyone is a librarian themselves, do y'all spend a lot of time reading (either at work or at home)?
