Recommendations for an Incarcerated Friend

Hi!

I have a very close friend who is being released from prison in July. I'd like to send him a book that will help him cope with his fears of dealing with post-incarceration and his feelings of inadequacy, since he has been away from society for so long.

Does anyone have a book in mind? It can be fiction, nonfiction, (auto)biography (he reads everything), as long as it's something that can relate to and inspire someone who's been incarcerated. Thanks!!

I'm thinking of McDowell by William Coles. This was BOTM some months back. Maybe you can look at the discussion topics to vet the book for your friend.

What a thoughtful friend you are! Just this morning I finished this month's Book of the Month, Man Mission. It's about four male friends, but more than that, it shares insights and some really beautiful and encouraging life lessons along the way.

Thank you so much Laura. I'm actually currently reading that book and I also think he would benefit from reading it :)

Our Thoughts Determine Our Lives is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read, with such incredible advice! It was written by a man who struggled with depression. I would highly recommend it! It is a Christian book though, and I don’t know if he’d want that or not.
It’s wonderful of you to think of your friend and I’m wishing him all of the best!
