I enjoyed The Royal Diaries. They are very easy read so that may not appeal to you. Something Upstairs was also a good book.

When I saw the title of the post I immediately thought about recommending Ken Follet!
Since you're already familiar with his books, I would strongly recommend Helen of Troy, by Margaret George, or the Boudica series, by Manda Scott.

If maybe you want to read from another era, by that I mean ancient -roman times, I would recommend the Daughters of Rome by Kate Quinn. I've read it many years ago, book borrowed from library, and its still in my had on the list of books I want to by.

I would recommend 'The Book Thief' by Markus Zusak. It is set in Germany during World War 2 and has quite an interesting plot. The main character is a common girl in Nazi Germany so it gives us the actual experience during that time. Also it's not like a diary or memoir but simply a story so probably you'll enjoy it.

I have so many Historical Fiction books that I love! I've never read the book you mentioned, but have a lot of other books. The "Bridgerton" novels by Julia Quinn have got to take the prize though--it combines the allure of the past with the sensuality of our current world. Plus, there are some moments that are absolute comedic gold. It has some sexual content, but contains no explicit language. I believe there's a fist fight at some point, so there's a little violence, but nothing major.

Will a historical romance do? Mr. Pickwick's Guide to Marriageable Young Ladies is a funny historical romance.

I read The Fox by M.N.J Butler and I thought it was one of the greatest classics of all time due to the stunning detail and diverse character relationships. I highly recommend this but be prepared to sit there captivated for a while as it's a long read! :techie-studyingbrown:
