Something like The Walking Drum, I'm looking for a good historical yarn about a roguish adventurer/swordsman traveling the world encountering peril, in over his head, close escapes, romance, education, etc. A swashbuckler (doesn't have to be just pirates) romantic adventure.

Really appreciate it. I've already read Sabatini and Dumas. Hungry for more but can't find more!
