Books similar to The Diving Bell and the Butterfly?

I've found myself to have an increasing interest in books with the theme of escaping a harsh reality with the use of vivid fantasy.

I'm hoping for some fiction (as I've yet to read any with this theme) but am always open to memoirs and the like.

So far I've read:

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (locked in syndrome)
Girl in the Dark (light allergy)
Ghost Boy (locked in syndrome)

All of them have been memoirs.

Any suggestions are welcome, and thanks in advance :tiphat:

I haven't read those books but if you're looking for a book where the main character "escapes" from reality then you could try reading The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly. :)

I cant think of any fictional works but if you would like you can check out these memoirs here:
The Two Kinds of Decay (autoimmune disease/ body paralysis)
The Other Side (Imprisonment)
-Might I add that it was her own boyfriend that kidnapped and abused her. The book is beautifully haunting.
