Books for my 10 year old granddaughter?

I'm looking for suggestions for a couple books for my ten year old granddaughter. She's at a age where her interests are changing and it's not as easy as it used to be to pick things out. She is in the fifth grade. I'm not sure what is age appropriate? I know at her age I would read things like Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Island of the Blue Dolphins. Would those seem dated to her? Kids seem so quick to mature these days. I know there is talk about crushes and clothes and such among her peers. I guess I'm looking for something not too young but definitely not to mature. She's a advanced reader, loves to read, loves animals, likes clothes, art, crafts...does that help? Lol. Anyone out there have a 10 year old? What do they like to read? Thanks ahead for any help!

Do you live near her? Maybe a trip to a bookstore would be fun. Just watch what she gravitates to, and ask her what interests her about the things she picks up. That might give you ideas for a while. It might be fun to buy two copies of something she picks that day so that you can both read it and then talk about it later.

I recommend the babysitters club and Laura Ingall's Wilder. That's what I read at that age.

I recommend the Anne of Green Gables series and it is a classic read for a growing girl! You can enjoy reading them with her too and start a grandmother and granddaughter bookclub! You can enjoy reading it and spend some quality time with your granddaughter! Enjoy!

The Redwall Series by Brian Jacques? I loved those when I was a kid, even got a few books signed by him. She would have to like reading fantasy and be into anthropomorphic animals. It was kind of like a happier, more interesting "Watership Down."

Diary of a wimpy kid. My daughter loves those! Also she loves A to Z mysteries and baby sitters club. They are around the same age. :)

I agree, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Goosebumps, not really horror, scary, sci fi. If she's rebellious I'd recommend The Catcher in the Rye, Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn. Animal lover I'd go with Black Beauty or The Jungle Book. And if she's adventurous Alice in Wonderland. What's her bday?

Anything by Judy Blume too.

Ocean of Dust by Graeme Ing and Lightmasters by M.G Wells if you don't mind a self published read. I really enjoyed these books and my niece liked them too (11yrs)

If you want something a touch more mature maybe around 12-13 maybe Lauren Kate, the Fallen series? these are nice reads with nothing more than kisses between characters and that angst that young people love :)

If she's a bookworm, she has definite ideas about what she wants to read. Ask her! It would be a great conversation. Also, take her favorite topic like horses or art and find a book about that. It will be a gift from you to her. That said, I love Anne of Green Gables series. She may have already read the Harry Potter series, but if not that is a fantastic story to read together. Best of luck and let me know if there is a more specific topic for her!

At that age I was super into the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling if you haven't considered that already. It can be a bit violent at times but most people seem okay with that. It's, of course, very well written and full of magic!

I'd recommend Nancy Drew as well as the Dear America and Royal Diaries series. I loved those series at that age, and still do.
