Wanted: Gritty psychological thrillers

I just finished reading "What Lies Within", which I received from this site. It's exactly what I love in a book: It's a seedy, gritty psychological thriller.
Any recommendations for books similar to this. Another example of what I love are Candice Fox's books (Hades, Eve and Fall)
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I have recently read an excellent book by Joanne Harris called 'Blue Eyed Boy' that may fit the bill. I like the use it makes of modern media, and it has a particularly creepy psychotic child! VERY different from many of her other books, that I also love.

I'm not sure if this counts as a psychological thriller, but it is defininatly psychological. Have you tried Vladimir Nabokov's "Invitation to a Beheading"?

A great psychological thriller I read recently is "My Sister Rosa" by Justine Larbalestier. It is considered a YA book but the characters are gripping and the story line is haunting.

The 11:05 murders is a bit dark... you might like that one?

I would also strongly advise the work of Minette Walters and Martina Cole - initially I was a bit reluctant to try the latter as she centres on gangland, which isn't, in itself, a subject that interests me, but she makes it fascinating and also weaves in a family story. For what it may prove, her books are the most borrowed in British prison libraries!

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but my favorite psychological horror book is Pet Sematary by Stephen King.

Luther by Neil Cross is one of the best "seedy, gritty psychological thriller" books I've ever read!

This topic reminded me of a book I just read - The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor. It recently came out, and has been compared to the words of Stephen King and the show "Stranger Things" (probably because it involves a group of kids, and there is also an 80's aspect).
I'd probably classify it as a psychological thriller, with some crime fiction and murder mystery elements involved. I was pretty disturbed by some parts of it too - definitely fits the description of "seedy", "gritty", and "dark".

I joined this amazing book club, about 10 minutes ago and happened to stumble across this thread. I also love the Thriller genre. I am so impressed with the wonderful suggestions from other members. I will be looking into each recommend book. Thank you. Just in case you haven't read this gem yet, I highly recommend Drowning Ruth by Christina Schwartz. My all time favorite book ever! I envy those who have yet to experience and discover this wonderful, engaging, psychological thriller.

Not sure if I'm the only one who's waited until recently to read Gone Girl, but it was really good.

How about Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris? Both are very dark and gritty and will grab your attention from the first pages.
