Looking for action packed fantasy books.

Post by Nicole42 »

I'm a real big fan of fantasy books with action and adventure. I like when the lead is young and underestimated in the beginning, but is actually brave and strong. I would enjoy if the lead had a love interest, but didn't find or meet them till later in the story. I want a book with a happy ending and not one that will span more than three books of a series.

Have you tried Discworld (Terry Pratchett)?

I just told someone else on here that I just finished reading "The Descendant" by Dakota Cook. I don't know what you mean when you say you want a "young" lead, but the main character is about 17 or so.

It was definitely action packed and there is a romantic subplot as well. It did end on a cliffhanger so I can't attest to the happy ending, but I really liked it!

These are some YA fantasy series that I loved:
Snow like ashes by Sara Raasch
An ember in the ashes by Sabaa Tahir
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
The cruel prince by Holly Black

I second An Ember in the Ashes! I would also suggest Leigh Bardugo's books in the Grishaverse. I would start with her Shadow and Bone trilogy, and then read her duology Six of Crows. Be prepared to be floored by the young thieves in the duology. The stunts they pull off are miraculous and Bardugo will leave you on the edge of your seat with the chapter endings.

Tiger Saga by Colleen Houck fits this description perfectly. It is YA. There are 4 books in the series and a prequel novella.

For YA, I recommend The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness and Incarceron by Catherine Fischer.
For more adult, I recommend Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

Most of the criteria you mentioned can be found in the The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. Definitely worth the read!
