The Wheel of Time series. Book 1 is called "The Eye of the World" by Robert Jordan.

Hope this is helpful!

I would read the Shannara Chronicles or Harry Potter because they have some similarities to LOTR. I think Shannara is a great series and you can also watch it because it has two seasons of the tv series so far. I do not know if they are continuing the tv series but it was beautifully designed visually with the unique storyline. I suggest you watch the series because it is stunning and who doesn't like elves. If you do end up watching it please let me know what you thought of it.

The Inheritance series by Christopher Paolini is the closest I have ever read. I think you would enjoy it.

The Sword of Truth is a series with several books by Terry Goodkind and takes you on quite a journey. The Dark Elf Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore is also a page-turner and the first part of a much larger series, The Legend of Drizzt.

Anything by David Eddings really. I have just finished "The Belgariad" and "The Mallorean" (both sets of 5 books, one series immediately following the other). They are kind of similar to LOTR in that there is magic and different races and lots of walking lol. They have a certain quest they must complete and the fate of the world hangs in the balance. I don't describe them very well but I really do recommend them. They are very good. Great characters too. Lots to get invested in!

I suppose my first question would have to be, similar in what way? The level of world building or fantasy adventure?

I'm a huge LOTR fan because of the world building, which is why I really appreciate Jeff Wheeler's books. There are multiple stories that all correlate with each other across worlds (Muirwood and Kingfountain especially).

You might also enjoy some of the following the I've recently found on Kindle Unlimited:

-A Fire Beneath the Skin books by Victor Gischler
-The Riven Wyrde Saga by Graham Austin-King
-The River Witch Books by Helena Rookwood
-The Ossard Series by Colin Taber
-Dragon Ridden Chronicles by T.A. White
-The Oremere Chronicles by Helen Scheuerer
-Avian by Emma Pullar
-T.C. Edge does good world building skills but his books are YA. I still read them all though and have enjoyed every series.
-Shifting Tides series and The Evermen Saga by James Maxwell

I'd recommend the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson! It has a fascinating world and a well thought through magic system :)
