Have you read Douglas Adams? If you like him, there are quite a lot of books to get through. They're quite "out there" but very funny and very satirical.

Anything by Terry Pratchett. The Disc World series is over 20 books long. Neil Gaimen is another author to check out. He doesn't write series, but he has done a book with Pratchett called Good Omens, in which the child of Satan gets mixed up at the hospital. Hilarious hijinks ensue
