I’d love to have book recommendations where the main protagonist is a witch. Young adult or adult fiction. My favorite books with witches were the Sweep series by Cate tiernan and the Wicked series by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie. Thanks!

A Discovery about Witches by Deborah Harkness is one of the best I have read in a long time.

What about The Witches of Eastwick by John Updike?
It's not necessarily YA, and it may not be a series, but it is a brilliant book.

Definitely A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. The Cousins O'Dwyer Trilogy by Nora Roberts is pretty fun. Uprooted by Naomi Novik is one of my favorites.

I've recommended The Blues is for Nightmares series by Laurie Stolarz for anyone who likes the Sweep series. It isn't necessarily about witches, but it is about a girl who has premonitions in her nightmares about horrible accidents and events. If she ignores them, people could die.

Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett. The protagonist is a young girl who wants to be a wizard, but there are witches in it.

I am currently reading a book called The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco and it is about a girl named Tea who is alienated by the kingdom based on her powers connected to death.
It's interesting book and Rin Chupeco's writing is honestly so amazing. [amazon=]The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco[/amazon]

Have you tried the Last Apprentice series by Joseph Delaney? The main protagonist isn't a witch (there is actually a spoiler here about that that I can't reveal without spoiling anything for you) but there are lots of witches in this series and one of the main characters in this series is a witch.

The Secret Circle trilogy by L.J. Smith is awesome. They're older books. Written in the early 90's but still good I think. It's about a girl who moves to a new town and discovers that she's a witch.

Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman! You may know the movie, but the book is even better. It’s about two (witch) sister’s who grow up in a Massachusetts town where their family is blamed for everything bad that happens there. They both long to escape, and eventually do as adults, but are drawn back together. It has it all- witchery, a black cat, a dark house, and love.
