Not so much a newbie, more a long time lurker!

Post by BeadyAlice »

Good day,

I thought I should actually say, "hello," in the forum and briefly introduce myself... although, I'm far more interested in you and what you have to say!

I'd describe myself as a lover of stories more than simply a lover of books. I love books, of course, but I also love films, TV dramas, plays, role playing games, songs, music, art, story telling and spoken word.

I think my love of stories was developed from a very young age. I can't remember a time when my parents didn't read to me. My Mum used to make up stories for me when I was a little girl, and my imagination would go wild with colours, characters, and feelings.

When I read, I "see" the story in my mind like I'm watching a film. My imagination has always had the ability to conjure images so real that I almost forget I'm reading words on a page. Therefore, when I read a good book, the experience can be all consuming for me. Even when I'm not actively reading, my thoughts often take a wander towards the characters from the book currently laying on my coffee table.

What is my favourite book? That feels like an unfair question. How could anyone pick just one?! However, I do have a special place in my heart for Jane Eyre. When I was 11, I thought it was about time that I read a "proper book," and Jane Eyre was the one I chose for reasons now lost to my adolescent mind.

The story captivated me, much to my surprise, as I was expecting it to be hard work reading a "grown up" book. I related so much to the character, Jane, and her story gave me hope for my own future life and happiness. It taught me to expect struggles and hardship, but to look for the good and hope for better times. Some great life lessons for a girl so young, and still relevant to the same girl not-so-young now!

Since, the age of 11 I have read many other classics, but also particularly enjoy fantasy, crime, and non fiction. However, I don't like to get too stuck in a genre and lose out on the chance to read other fantastic books! I'm very open minded to reading a good story, regardless of genre.

So, that's me; well, a bit about me, anyway. I look forward to learning more about you too :D
