Any librarians in this community?

Post by Librarygeek1980 »

Hi, I'm Jen, I'm new to this forum. I work as a librarian in a little community in Richfield Utah, and I was wondering if there are any other librarians here that geek the books and reading as much as I do. :)

Sorry I am not a librarian, though I have relatives who are, but I would like to welcome you to the forum! You will find a lot of book lovers on here to interact with, so just jump in wherever you have something to say in any of the threads! Have a great time! :D

It was my dream to work in a library when I was younger! I wanted to study library science when I went to college, but my mom wouldn't let me. Hahaha.

Hi! I hope you enjoy your time on the forum!

I'm not employed officially as a librarian, because I volunteer for a charity-based local library. That means that I don't get paid and I don't have contracted hours, but completing shifts requires the same duties as any paid librarian. Sorting books, handling loans and all such stuff. I enjoy it so much and it's one of my favourite places to be that it's more recreational than anything :)

So you get paid in happiness? I tried to use that as currency once, but the electric company didn't appreciate it. 8)

Hahaha! Fortunately, I have my parents (for now) to pay the electricity bill so I can continue to be happy. I recently applied to a job, actually. I attended the interview and now I'm just waiting for them to tell me that they don't want me :)

I volunteer in a library. I guess that doesn't make me a librarian. I get to look for all the misfiled books. I love books, so now I get to handle them all the time. I have found interesting books that I would have never picked up because they weren't in my favorite genre. Wow.....this has been an eye opening experience. I'm retired so I have lots of time to be at the library and to read all the books that I am taking home. Don't volunteer for a job like this unless you have time to read at home. It will kill you about all the books out there that you will want to read!
