Another Book Lover is Finally home
Since as far back as I could read my first sentence on a paper, books have always been a big part of my everyday life. When I entered grade school at 7, I remember myself visiting the day care center I used to go to just to get access to the fairy tale books. Maybe because when I was still there, I didn't know how to read yet and would only be amazed at the pictures. When I learned to read, had to go back and read for myself those stories that I used to only hear from my day care teacher.
Halfway through grade school, my classmate and I ended up exploring one of the abandoned classrooms and found out that they are full of old school books to the brim! Could have been outdated books taken out of the library to make room for new ones. I took home some of the books I fancied, mostly the books on history and science. I didn't know if what I did was wrong because those were abandoned, anyway, collecting dust and preys to termites. All I remember was that I was so happy with my loot.
Speaking of the library, it was my favorite place in school - from grade school to high school to college, and even after I graduated. before starting college, I lived in a remote area in Bukidnon, Philippines, discovered a tiny "Sitio" library, and befriended the caretaker so I can borrow books and bring back home to read under a kerosene lamp at night.
When I graduated, life shifted to survival mode. I got too busy with my job and eventually lost the luxury of time to read. I would walk past several public libraries and tell myself to visit them "one of these days", but they'd be closed on weekends, which is my only free time. I still managed to buy second-hand books from book sale every now and then. I'm able to keep 20 or so books at one point, but eventually gave them all away when I started transitioning to minimalist lifestyle.
Now it feels like reading books was an old friend that I have not get in touch with for years because "adulting" happened. With this community, I look forward to saying "Hi" to that old friend, and maybe we can be reunited once again.

What is grief, if not love persevering?
Grief is just love with no place to go.
