I usually reach for horror, fantasy, of SF. Speculative fiction is the best as far as entertainment, I do not like romance novels and mysteries.

Is sad-books-about-small-towns-and-wierd-people a genre? No? Let's just say it is. That's my go to...

Probably Fantasy and Science-Fiction, sometimes Suspense/Thriller. I only read Romance when it's fanfiction, because I already care about the characters.

Hi,

For me, the go-to genre is fantasy and espionage thrillers. Right now I am veering more towards fantasy as I just finished the Dark Tower series and have just started the Malazan series.

Anybody have any good recommendations for a few good espionage thrillers?

Cheers,
Yash

Horror and science books have always been my go to genres, but I love distopian books particularly.

Any book with suspense is my go to book to read. I love the ones that keep you guessing until the very end, and make you wondering why a character is doing what they're doing. A well written suspense story will leave the reader feeling so caught up in solving the problem they can almost feel the main characters desperation. If romance is thrown into the suspense story then it's even better.

Mystery is my favorite genre. I also like fantasy. I love to read books from many different genres, it just depends on the particular book, but I always love a good mystery with lots of plot twists and turns.

If you'd asked me this a year ago, I probably would have said romance with some scifi or fantasy elements. It was like a palate cleanser between things that weren't guaranteed to have a happy ending.
Recently I've found myself reaching for books of short stories or essays. I've never been a huge reader of either genre, but that's my go-to right now! Maybe because I can read a short story or essay in an hour and be done and able to focus on other things (like work. There's nothing worse than being caught up in another world when you're sitting at a computer filling out forms.).

Recently, it has been mystery/thriller type books that I'm instantly drawn to, but I miss my historical romances often. I had just been in a rut with romance and wanted to branch out when I started reading Mystery Scene magazine. So many mystery/thrillers to choose from!

ugh i'm such a sucker for YA novels because I can relate to them so well. I know they aren't the most mature or developed story lines, but their pure and there's a kind of connection that's so real when someone can identify things you felt at 14, 15, 16 when you thought no one else could or ever would. when a book like that resonates with me, it's hard to imagine reading anything else. I have been wanting to venture more into mystery/thriller though.

My favorite genre would have to be fantasy. At the end of the day, I'll always go to stories about mages and dragons and war throughout kingdoms over any romance novel or a realistic work of literature. I need adventure and mystery and cliffhangers to keep me on my toes while reading!

I go to Religion genre and Non-fiction. I use love spiritual books for life inspiration and non-fiction to learn about fascinating topics I am interested in. Life is a never ending learning experience, and reading is definitely a way to educate yourselves and others. I will pick up many non-fiction books to learn from and also love autobiographies of famous people who made a difference in our world.
