I do believe in spirits.... This is an actual story that happened to me. One morning I was sitting on the couch in our living room, (our kitchen is right next to our living room with a counter top separating the two.) My brothers were in the room with me, all of the sudden I realize, that I had the feeling of being watched and that there was a large mass in my side-vision and just as I look over at it, it ducks down behind the counter. I ran over to the kitchen but it had already disappeared. All I know is that it was big, black, and didn't want to be seen....

I believe in ghosts and do think there are evil and good ones. I hate to think that some are still tied to this Earth because they have something unfinished in their lives. I like to believe that the good ones are here to protect us. Unfortunately, I think the evil ones are here because of something they did in their life. I think they weren't able to make it to Heaven so the devil leaves them here to wreak havoc on the living which then turns them into demons after so many evil-doings.

My Father died when I was 21. I was away at college and had to go back. My Mom was at home sitting on the bed crying. She felt the bed move like someone had sat down beside her. The next thing she felt was someone holding her hand. She said that she felt instant peace. Are they real I believe they are. I was always believe my Dad was comforting her in that moment.

lane_vespertine wrote:Ghosts go back to our desire to have some sort of proof that life goes on after death. Not just a belief or a faith, but actual proof.
People see things all the time that they can't explain. I don't doubt for a moment that TrishaAnn92 did see her grandfather when she was sick.
But our brains aren't perfect, they aren't little video recorders in our heads. They don't perfectly record events... well ever. Especially if sickness or stress is involved.
If someone is motivated to believe in ghosts, frequently because they want that proof, then any sort of 'glitch' in the brain can be explained by it.
But these 'glitches' could also be used to 'prove' aliens, gods, an understanding of how a roulette table works, anything.
And by 'glitches' I am referring to anything that makes our brains do bizarre stuff.
Tunnel vision when you are scared.
Hallucinations when sick or on drugs.
Our need to see faces when there aren't any (like in the cracks or patterns of your childhood ceiling.)
All of this is completely normal, and everyone has experienced these things.
Going back to the original question: No, I don't believe in ghosts. But I believe when people say that they have seen one. I just think that the ghost was more likely in their head (still a valid observation, mind you) than an actual spectral representation of a dead person.
I wholeheartedly agree with this! I am a firm believer that our brains invent things to help us make sense of things we don't understand. Very well said!

I believe if a person has a violent death, their soul cannot rest, and yes, they can haunt a house or people in either a good or bad way, depending on the circumstances of their death, and whom they are haunting. There are too many phenomena that have happened to people that are unexplainable. There are also people who are sensitive to these "ghosts" and feel uncomfortable in certain places but don't know why they feel that way.

I don't necessarily believe in being haunted by someone else, but I know for sure that I can feel haunted by my own actions and regrets! Does that count as a ghost? That voice that is always in the back of your mind, reminding you of all the ways you didn't live up to your own expectations? It's definitely scary to me.

I think that counts. You are still being haunted.

I'm not sure if I believe in ghosts or not. I've had strange things happen that were hard to explain but I'm not sure. In all honesty I'd prefer to believe they aren't real. The thought kind of depresses me. To think of a spirit roaming around all alone? Seems sad. I'd prefer to imagine that after we die we go to a place of joy where we get to be with the people we love that have gone before us.

Im not sure if I believe in ghosts or not. Some stories are pretty convincing. But on the other hand it seem pretty out there.

Hahahaha Janet. It could be psychological as well.
When people say you've changed, it just means that you have stopped living your life, their way.

Maybe seeing ghosts is actually a psychosomatic reaction by the mind of the person or persons who are seeing the manifestation. ?
