Review by _eemjay -- We are Voulhire: A New Arrival unde...
Welcome to Voulhire; a prosperous nation filled with both humans and mages. It was a kingdom which citizens belonging to dystopian nations had heard wondrous stories about, and longed to be a part of. The stories reveal the kingdom of Voulhire being independent of the influence of the Emperor of Lullabies, a ruler who governed other kingdoms of the world by pitching them against one another which led to the devastating result of war. Galen had lived his life trying to survive in one of these dystopian nations. On his arrival to the kingdom of Voulhire, he began an adventurous journey of self-discovery and improvement on the set skills he required to take up the position left to him by his uncle, in the kingdom of Voulhire.
Regardless of the lack of involvement of the Emperor of Lullabies in Voulhire, the kingdom was under attack from its own ruling class, which included dark mages and scheming politicians. As the citizens try to rebuild their town from the despair which one of their rulers had plunged them into, a much darker force, slowly made its way towards the people, in an attempt to once more cause ruin, to this seemingly prosperous nation.
I commend Matthew Tysz on his use of language and descriptions in this book, it helped in bringing the characters and their experiences to life. This tale was told using both the first and third point of view, as a result of this, the story unfolded through multiple lens of different characters. It is truly commendable how despite the story being shared from multiple points of view, I was able to remain focused and easily keep track of the story. I equally relished the build-up that emanated due to the book’s suspenseful nature, as I made progress with the story.
The characters in We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, were engaging and conversations between them were always interesting to follow. The plot line of this novel is quite intriguing and I find myself wanting to know what happens with the kingdom in the next part of this book. This novel contained the use of profanity and included mature scenes involving gore and murder, therefore rendering the book inappropriate for young readers as well as sensitive readers.
I’ll rate this book four out of four stars. There wasn’t any part of this book that I didn’t like, likewise it was able to hold my attention from the beginning till the end. It was well edited, and I didn't find any error. If you’re into adventurous fantasy novels, then this is definitely the one for you.
