Review by adonehue -- The Book You Need to Read
I have just finished the book The Book You Need to Read by Debbie Wilcox, and I have chosen to rate it 2 out of 4. What I disliked most about this book is the misleading title. When I clicked on it, I expected something legendary, but all I got were Bible sermons. I was not expecting that when I downloaded the book. Also, it is less like a self-help book and more like a spirituality book to help you understand Christian readings and how to implement them in your everyday life.
What I did like about the book was that it did pull many quotes from the Bible and used examples to show how those quotes related to everyday situations. I would definitely recommend this book to Christians or people who want to get to know faith and Christianity. I would not recommend this book to non-Christians and people who are looking for a book leaning towards mindset and self help because the text is pretty limited to advice from the Bible.
There are a few spelling errors, but nothing you would notice right away. I do think that the book is fairly well written, and I did not have any problems with it. The quotes were correct and the formatting was correct also, so that is another thing I will give the author credit for.
Adding on, I do like that the book does not push Christianity on you. I feel like a lot of people are very aggressive when trying to talk about Christianity, but the author did not make me feel guilty at all. Even though I did not choose this book to read about faith, I did like that I got to learn about the Bible and that it did not make me feel guilty for not being the “perfect” Christian. I would like to also add that I really did like that it gave you some history on the Bible, like when it was written and the original languages it was in.
To finish off, there are definitely pros and cons about this book. One of my majors issues was that the title was a bit misleading, and it was not something that interests me very much. I did like that there were direct quotes and history lessons about the Bible, and that some of the examples the author used were relatable. I didn’t give this book a 3 or 4 star rating because of how the title was misleading, and the fact that it wasn’t really a book I needed to read. Yes it was interesting, but to me it was nothing life changing. I did not give it a 1 star rating because overall it was a decent book if you are into learning more about Christianity, and the writing was not bad at all. So if you are interested in learning how to implement faith into your everyday life, this book is for you.
