Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren tells a story about how Lucifer’s own reaper is destined to fall in love with an angel he was sent to kill.

What I like the most about the story is the blend of a good plot and good writing. It is an interesting play of characters, humans, and the supernatural. I also like how angels and demons were portrayed with human emotions. The way they were shown to hesitate or fall short of deciding what is best to do makes them relatable. I also like the fact that there were no explicit sexual scenes. Somehow it is only fitting as they were simply trying to get to know each other and not rushing into forming a romantic relationship. Just because you are soulmates does not mean you should immediately feel so. I like the slow buildup of their relationship.

There is nothing bad to be said about the book except, I think there should be more explanation on how humans can capture supernatural beings. It was, to me, anticlimactic when the demon seems invincible at first, and yet he was easily caught by human scientists later. Although there are some possible explanations, I wanted to see more concrete evidence of their apparent capture. This is a fantasy. There must be something to say about that that would enlighten the reader more.

On the other hand, something about some angles in the story left me in the dark such as the resolutions of the story of some characters. It does not make sense to me that they were simply left at the point where the author did. To me, they might have had more substance to their stories even though they were secondary characters. Also, it looks to me as odd when a soul, in the end, was given a second chance when others were left to suffer.

In conclusion, I feel satisfied with the book and I rate this 4 out of 4 as it strikes to me the perfect balance between a good story and a casual style of writing. There are slight profanities which is understandable given the milieu, but nothing that exceeds the acceptable to the general audience. There is nothing to say about the writing as the book looks professionally edited. I think this book would be enjoyed by those who like to see villains changing heart and some light romance.
