Review by AABG1107 -- The Raven's Trail (Book 1)
The Raven's Trail by Liz D. Marx it's not only a love story but also a story about magic, hope, strength, and especially fiction about Native American tribes, in the past and in our current days.
The book is narrated in the third person and in the beginning, tell us separately the story of 3 people. It starts with a small mention from a long time ago, it mentions Adsila a young girl from the tribe Tula and the awful day when the leader of her tribe removes all the hopes she had to become a great magician, instead he wants her to get married and start a family. The next mention is about Chloe a woman that since little dreams about a Native American tribe and has a Native American woman as an imaginary friend. Due to this obsession, she decides to study and later work in the Smithsonian Museum, with the dream that one day she will manage her own Native American department. The 3rd mention is about Mason, a man that later we can understand as being Native American and has his own antique shop in New York focused on Native American objects. A few chapters after Chloe and Mason will meet, that's when all the stories will get together and after we will understand why the writer mentions Adsila and why is she so important that she had to appear in the first chapter.
I really liked everything in this story, even though usually I prefer stories that are told in the first person, in this case, we can understand the need to use the third person, because it's not just one story that the writer is telling us, it's more than one story and it's more than one time. The writer has this amazing skill to be able to conciliate everything at the same time, just like in a movie. While some characters are in one place the others are in another having actions that will influence the others and vice versa. The story is really well told and I was constantly hopping for the next chapter, maybe that's why I finished the book in two days and I'm ready for the second book.
What I liked most about this book was, without any doubts, the different stories and how everything wrapped up to just one amazing story, I also loved the romance and the way it is described from the point of view of both characters. What I most dislike was the lack of focusing on what I think is an important character, but, I also think that that happened because the second book will focus a lot on him. I believe this book will most appeal to teenagers and older, I just do not recommend it to younger people because, as with everything, the book is better if you can completely understand it.
I rate this book 3 out 4 stars, just because of some minor typing mistakes, nothing to do with the amazing story and that's why is not a 4.
