[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]

[rwc=id373763-125]3 out of 4 stars.[/rwc]"We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" is one of the six fantasy series books. Meticulously written, the book welcomes the reader to enter into a magical world so unique than anything created in the past. The description of the characters and the places is detailed to perfection. You can empathize with the characters regarding their sentiments and you can sense the overall feel of the situations. For example, you can have a general awareness of sadness, loss, and anger when Lord Elden's palace is attacked but humbleness and happiness when Rowan meets Galen. Also, you can imagine yourself being able to see and touch everything around you and that is how detailed the author is able to describe places and scenes.

The book's main character is Galen who inherited valuables in Voulhire from his uncle. He is on the journey to learn how to be a blacksmith that he will be able to accomplish with the help of Rowan, his new friend, and Demetrius, a monk. Magic gives the book a mysterious zest. The plan is to create a special sword that requires a physical material like lactis steel and an imbuer to create, I would say, a "magic sword". Galen came from the Prince's Islands where he worked hard. He becomes to appreciate his new inherited possessions and he is eager to evolve into this new person that he is expected to be. He is a very humble character and it feels that he is going with the flow of whatever Rowan is telling him to do.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because as much as it was so professionally written some parts did not attract me and I was waiting to get to the characters and places that kept my interest. I loved to read about Galen, Lord Eldus and his family, Meldorath, mages and their magical powers. Also, I loved the description of Caromentis, the magical world as explained by Beth. The readers who would appreciate this book would be anybody that likes fantasy with magic and mages, palaces, kings, and knights.

There are many important characters in this book: King Wilhelm, the Lords of Hillport, Galen, Rowan, the mayor of Magnum Caelum, captain Barcaedi and a many more. They play specific roles to create together the fantasy that the author wanted to imbue us with. Lord Eldus is set by the King to watch over Hillport and to make it successful again. Melrodath, on the other hand, has other plans and tries to destroy anybody and anything who interferes with his projects and comes in his path. He has advanced magical powers and as he said he was not interested in the physical world. Galen, unconsciously might be able to create a link between Cosmos and Caromentis when and if he will succeed with his new sword design.

The book captivates the reader with the magic and a world that has no real time life technology. They fight with swords, they send messages with messenger hawks, and light up candles. There is a hierarchical structure of society. There are kings, lords, and servants. Also, lower class that work in mines and upper class like book keepers. There are leaders that give orders and it seems that everyone knows exactly where their place is in their community.
