Review by TearRey -- Awakening by Tayma Tameem
Awakening by Tayma Tameem is a story that tells the lives of two young sisters Katja and Amara. Where the youngest, Amara, is born with specials gifts and can invoke the powers of winter. The book is 28 chapters, which the structured into two intertwined parts, one that is the past that tells us the children's childhood, which in my opinion is not very entertaining and a bit interesting. And the other is the present, where both are already adults, which is the most interesting and for which I was able to continue reading the story since I wanted to know what would happen with Katja.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars, mainly, I only get caught by the life of the older sister in the present, and as I said earlier, chapters that refer to the childhood of both did not captivate me. I found them very simple and lacking action, but with valid importance for the story since it needed to know more about the main characters. When the girls are adolescence, gets more interesting, more when is about Amara's powers. Also, the novel turns a little bored when Katja is living on a farm, which is unnecessarily long. The last chapters of the book save it. In addition to putting more action, adventure, and mystery on him, the story takes an unexpected turn that completely engulfed me, and I couldn't stop reading until I finished it.
The characters are simple, complex, and engaging. However, some supporting characters lacked personality. In the case of the Prince of Brule, which appeared several times, it was only for their title and not by his name, while others that appeared only once, had a name.
Good storytelling. This book will catch girls, boys, and also adults. The edition of the book is good, found an error in editing, it was in the prologue that the king tries to take his daughter's hand to go and see the queen; he takes her hand, but in the next, she fails to shake hands with her father, or at least that's how I understood it.
It's a good story, it doesn't take your sleep away, but if it entertains you, it reminded me a little of Frozen by Disney film. Finally, what I didn't like very much about the book, as I mentioned before, were the parts of childhood and when Katja was on the farm. I feel that it lasted a lot of unnecessarily, and the end seems very fast to me. In conclusion, it is a good story, if you do not know what to read, this is a good option, for my part I expect the second part of this since it leaves me a lot of questions.
