Rescuing General Patton by Curtis Stephen Burdick is a 197-page fictional historical novel that vividly describes activities that could have occurred during World War II. The book is a mixture of history facts and fiction and produces an action packed story that appeals to the senses. The author was able to create fictional events about non-fictional characters. The book communicates a sense of adventure and is thrilling and exciting.

Chapter one of the book introduces an author, John Harding, who is dedicated to writing novels about past military activities. He meets a lady that introduces herself as the granddaughter of the late General Patton, a brilliant war hero with controversies surrounding him. The granddaughter, Julia Patton Walton, hands over a journal to Harding which contains details of top secret activities that occurred during World War II involving General Patton and various military personnel. The details of these activities were investigated and compiled into a book by Harding and formed consequent chapters in the novel. General George Patton is depicted as a brilliant soldier with some negative characteristics that had made him enemies among the soldiers. However, as much as he was disliked, the soldiers involved in a secret mission to rescue him willingly sacrificed their lives for a successful mission. The mission was difficult and required improvisation, but the determination of these soldiers paid off at the end.

This novel is well detailed and describes the scenes and locations so well that it is remarkably easy to picture exactly what is being described. The characters have attributes that will endear them to the readers. They have attributes that should be seen in dedicated military officers. However, the novel contains minor profane language which is common amongst soldiers and may not be suitable for children. My favorite aspect of this book is the well described locations and scenes. The storyline is also interesting and readers will get engrossed while reading, especially the twists and unexpected obstacles that appeared suddenly during the secret mission.

This book is best suited for readers that enjoy historical fiction and action thrillers as well as world war enthusiasts. This book was professionally edited and I found no grammatical mistakes in the text.

In conclusion, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. This book gets a perfect score because it is creative, exciting, well written and the text was professionally edited.
