How to be successful is a non-fiction by M. Curtis McCoy. Success! Nothing fascinates a man like success. The definition of success may vary from person to person but the basic requirements to achieve success remains the same. And they’re perseverance; trust in thyself and never quenching thirst for improvement. Success can’t be either financial or emotional. It must be a combination of both and there’s no universal combination that works well for everyone. The onus of cracking the combination that works perfectly fine lies with us.

It will not just pop out of the blue rather it must be done by the age-old method of trial and error. Only when you try, will you be able to know yourself. Knowing thyself is the key to decipher the formula. This book gives insight about the way a successful person thinks and what they value most in their life and in a person. The author asks a set of questions to successful people he met in his life. And he presents their answers for the same in a question and answer format.

The idea and approach are well and good but it would have been better if he had personalized them a bit according to their profession and their current phase in life. I give the book 3 out of 4. The book quotes a lot from The Holy Bible. Like, “Get wisdom. Though it may cost all you have, get understanding” from the Book of Proverbs.

It doesn’t have any offensive content. It has powerful quotes for life, like,” You learn more from failure than from success. Don’t let it stop you. Failure builds character.” “Plan your dive, dive your plan” from Jeff Wobig gives you a glimpse of the motivation this book can provide. Whatever be the motivation, it's up to us to keep the momentum. They can help you give a kick start or it can be a guiding light in the path of darkness to keep us from straying.

Can success be sweeter than the process it took to reach them? Does success involve only you or would you like to savor it along with the people around you? If it’s the latter then who will they be? Is success the ultimate destination? Is it a never-ending process that makes you strive for a higher motive each and every time you reach one? Every decision of making your life interesting or seeing it as just a thing to pass lays on us.
