Review by thaservices1 -- Business Basics BootCamp
Business Basics Bootcamp: The Ultimate Crash Course by Mitche Graf is an instructive book for both current business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. The 271-page text is broken into 8 chapters and each chapter is organized into subject headings for easy reference. The author includes several lessons and critical thinking exercises throughout the book to stimulate the reader into positive activity.
Like many other business self-help books I have read, the author's focus on time management, planning, and discipline is very clear. However, unlike so many of the other books, I found this one to be particularly inspiring because of the focus on quality of life. Graf has this to say early in the text:
"We have 86,400 seconds each day. How we consciously choose to spend those seconds determines who we ultimately become over a lifetime."
The focus is not on profit alone, but the realization of preferred lifestyle and fulfillment of driving passions. It is about living the life you choose now. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.
Many authors sprinkle these books with humor and often come across as forced and corny. Graf's humor is mild and feels genuine. His style is personal and leaves the reader feeling as if they have gained a kind and supportive mentor. I found many correlations between Graf and another inspirational business writer, Jorge Newbury, such as an early history in competitive sports, unconventional business practices, and a drive to make the world a better place for all.
What I enjoyed most about the book was the broad scope that each lesson could be applied to. As a very small business owner, it is often difficult to fit the business principles offered in these books to my direct needs. The marketing, sales, and pricing guidance in this book, however, I found very helpful. The author provides easy to understand and obvious comparisons in familiar everyday brands to guide the reader to an understanding of the concepts. I also enjoyed the critical thinking exercises and the process of putting my thoughts on my own business to paper. I truly did not find anything to dislike about the book. Other than discovering the author does not share my beliefs in Bigfoot, UFOs, and Nessie, I can't complain.
I think that any current or aspiring business owner would benefit from reading this book. I recommend it to anyone with even just a passing thought on the matter. As Graf points out, the world is a very different place than it has been formerly. The old business models and overwhelming time consumption that plagues many business owners are no longer the path to personal success. Billions of potential customers are out there and with proper planning and adjustment, there is no reason any potential business cannot succeed other than our own fear of change.
Overall, I found Business Basics Bootcamp: The Ultimate Crash Course to be an excellent read and give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. It was not only informative but greatly inspiring. The text was almost completely free of error, well organized, and easy to read. It contains no profanity and is suitable for any age group. Highly recommended.
