Review by Twylla -- Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick
Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick. A global anti-Zionist plot of biblical proportions has been set in motion. The story begins as three bombs simultaneously explode in a New York City synagogue during the Yom Kippur service. FBI Special Agent Lara Edmond, a member of the Joint Terrorist Task Force, and Uri Levin, a Mossad agent, start their investigation in New York and follow the clues as the jihadists exact their revenge on the Zionists. Lara and Uri are elated to be working together again. Their last partnership was in Chicago a few years ago. Neither one has had a serious romantic relationship since then; they were meant to be together.
This story has heart-pounding nonstop action. I love the humor between Lara and Uri, especially when they are in the middle of a life and death situation. The story is so dark and evil, the humor adds a nice balance.
The characters are well developed and realistic. The bigger-than-life Reverend Depew with his deep baritone voice was one of my favorite characters. It would have been interesting to know what drew 20,000 people to his lavishly decorated over-the-top church every Sunday. The Bar-lev family was fascinating. I would have liked to know more about Yehudi Bar-lev. What was he thinking as the family was preparing to go to the synagogue that morning? Dale Simmons, the rich Oil baron, with all of his political connections, was devious and manipulative. The President and his Cabinet and advisors were so true to life.
Mr. Winnick has an in-depth knowledge of the Middle East and its political inter-relationships around the globe. The story is fiction, but it is so fact-based, I felt like I was reading a true story. I felt like the plot incorporated the current mood of the country. America is very reluctant to get involved in another conflict, but we have to be loyal to Israel, one of our strongest and most important allies in the world.
I give this book an enthusiastic rating of 4 out of 4 stars. It is well-written and professionally edited. I didn’t find any errors. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The language was tame with only minor profanity. The story is very fast-paced, the tone is informal, and it is very easy to read. Due to the extremely violent and graphic events that are described, I would recommend this book to mature readers who appreciate an edgy international thriller.

I agree everyone should read it. This is an intense international thriller. Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick is an action-packed, suspenseful thriller. This is really an amazing book! I recommend it to mature readers who appreciate page-turning, suspenseful intrigue. However, violent and graphic fight scenes make this book inappropriate for young readers.

I second your thoughts on this. I wonder how a young mind processed the situation. I want to understand why and how children should be part of such acts. Thanks for the insights.I would have liked to know more about Yehudi Bar-lev. What was he thinking as the family was preparing to go to the synagogue that morning?
