We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is the second book of the We are Voulhire Series, written by Matthew Tysz. It is a thrilling, adrenaline-filled science fiction and fantasy novel full of suspense, intrigue, battles, dark forces, and destruction.

The city of Magnum Caelum has no iron reserves of its own. Following the destruction of Hillport (in book 1), where Magnum Caelum usually ordered their iron supply from, the city mayor asked Galen and his friends to travel to the city of Virko to petition for the needed iron. The story focuses on developments in Virko, which is the hub of the Voulhirian industry. The city founder, Lord Venden, who is bedridden and dying, grants the trio their request for iron but pleads that they will rid the Rendenhide Manor of dark forces that can destroy both his son, Hans Hrelek, as well as the city. Meanwhile, in Yamon Soul, an unknown dangerous virus has been found; and in a twisted turn of events, Eiodi Gadesh is challenged for his position as leader of the Destinism faith.

Matthew Tysz is a brilliant author, and I am in awe of his storytelling, attention to detail, and well thought out characters. This book is a thrilling blend of mystery, magic, and unexpected suspense. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and isolating a single event or character which I liked is very difficult. I liked the way that the author portrayed Eiodi Gadesh. He is depicted as kind and caring, someone who takes an active interest in ruling the spiritual welfare of the Voulhirian Empire. He is knowledgeable but does not use his magic, knowledge, or power in a corrupt way. He has the heart of being a worthy Eiodi.

There is nothing specific that I disliked about the book. However, one must note that this is a dark story, and sensitive readers would possibly not enjoy the book. There are numerous explicit scenes of violence in the book.

I found no spelling or grammatical errors and feel that the book has been well-edited. I give We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko a rating of four out of four stars. It is a good read and keeps the reader engaged and interested throughout.

I would recommend this book to science fiction and fantasy lovers, as well as adventure seekers. I do not recommend this book for young or impressionable readers, who may find the graphic depiction of degradation and violence upsetting.
