The Thin Blue li(n)e is a captivating novel written by the author Brian Cook, a retired lieutenant. The author invites us inside the lives of his characters. His sole purpose is to help us understand the thin line.
As an audience, we view policemen/ women as heroes or culprit, depending on where we stand. The author helps us understand that these are people like you and me, with flaws and strength.
With the twist and turns of the novel, we understand how the character’s way of life and choices influences their career.
The book's title is symbolic. In a nutshell, it informs us of the character’s struggles. The code of honor that must be upheld by The Class of 217th Academy; will be the code that challenges their day to day decisions.
The most captivating aspect of this book is the author's humor and use of suspense. The author uses humor to pique your interest. And just when you think you have the book figured out, he throws in a curve ball to keep you hooked and reading.
Brian cook throws you some crumbs here and there to keep you turning the pages. The humor and suspense are so natural you find yourself enjoying the book.
Although the book is a good read, too much of something can be poisonous. The negative aspect of the book is the suspense, too many unanswered questions. The reader remains with a lot of questions and no answers. The author invites us to experience the dilemma of each character and leaves us in conflict due to a lack of answers. And unresolved issues.
For me, I would rate the book 4 out of 4 . The author piqued my interest through humor and suspense. The author knew when to hold on to information and when to unravel the full details. Hence, creating tension and curiosity at the same time.
If you’re looking for a good read, this book is great for young adults and elderly audiences of between 25-40 years. The book not only challenges us on our beliefs about the men in blue. But it also helps us connect with their struggles.
