Dagger's Destiny[i/] by Linnea Tanner follows the story of Princess Catrin's coming of age as the daughter of the king of the Cantiaci people. Catrin must learn to juggle her responsibilities as a potential heir to the Cantiaci throne with her mind and body, including entering a contract marriage with a rival tribe to secure allies despite her heart's conviction of marrying for love, even if it involves a greater enemy who is threatening all of the tribes of Brittania.

Dagger's Destiny[i/] offers a glimpse into the self-serving strategies of her father, banished brother, King of the neighboring Catuvellauni tribe, and representative of the Roman empire on the lands of Brittania. Staying alive among all the malevolent people around her with their individual plots to reign supreme is difficult enough, but the story also adds the twists of ill-doing druids and their dark magical schemes.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. There were very few errors within the text of the book, however, very early on there is a paragraph about Catrin's nefarious brother, Marrock, but Catrin's roman lover, Marcellus's name was used and for this reason, I rated the book 3 stars. This was very hard to look past and I found myself making sure I was reading the correct character's stories throughout the remainder of the book.

What I liked most about the book was the author's ability to develop very sinister characters throughout the book. What I liked least about the book was the over the top fantasy; it was just a little too much for my personal taste. The author did provide clarification of common fantasy and witchcraft believed and practiced during this time in history which did help buffer my distaste for this particular book and she also wrote about the liberties she took in taking the common superstitious fantasy to the next level in her writing. She also provided a nice excerpt of the third book in this series for readers who wish to follow Catrin's story.

This book is suitable for mature audiences. The book contains explicit language and graphic scenes of sex and violence that some audiences may find offensive. If these circumstances are acceptable to you as a reader, I believe this book would appeal to anyone who enjoys spells, potions, fantasy, mythology, and a little bit of ancient history involving Rome's invasion of Brittania.
