REVIEW OF THE BOOK FOULING IN BUSINESS AND COLLEGE ATHLETICS
By SIMBARASHE on 15 August 2021

FOULING in BUSINESS and COLLEGE ATHLETICS is a book based on real life business scandals and basketball scandals in the USA and was wrote by Gonzalo Fernández. Its main focus is on scandals and how they where corrected by the authorities.

Have you ever headed of the business and college athletics scandals in the USA if not then read the book FOULING in BUSINESS and COLLEGE ATHLETICS? This book explains the case that are known worldwide such as the ENRON case, this word is very familiar with auditors especially those who have studied with big university if you are not familiar with it then read the book foundling in business? For those who have plans to work in the USA as accountants and auditors and all those who are in business this is a good book to read. It has basketball cases and scandal at USA colleges and how the responsible authorities like the FBI reported on their investigations.
The fist part of the book describe how materiality concept has been applied by auditors and scandals in by firms in adjusting report to suit what the companies wanted. On chapter five the book explains how the Arthur Andersons was addressed by the Sarbanes Oxley Act.
The second part of the book narrates Fouling in College Athletics. It explains the how big business is in college sport mainly it sources of income, compensation for coaches and what student athletes and their colleges gets from basketball as a sport. The same part also narrates the issue of incentives to break rules and the FAKE CLASSES at UNC chapel hill and golf in chapter 10 as a professional sport not forgetting the power of branding. Under power of branding the book mention about big name in sport such as Tiger Wood, Michael Jordan and the most popular brand in the sneaker industry the NIKE.
On second part of the book it explains the FAKE classes scandal with Marry Willingham being the key figure as she is the one who was the whistle blower to the alleged fake classes. In the fake classes scandal students were offered programs to study African and Afro American studies. The UNC had an internal investigation and the result proved the claims of fake classes wrong. The book further explains the lengthy investigation by the NCAA committee and it failed to conclude that there was violation of the NCAA academic rules however there were two violations that the secretary curriculum secretary failed to cooperate during the investigations and the former chairman as well.
I found only on mistake on page 140 were there is a spelling error about three words are not spaced. The language is free from religious inclinations and profanities. With all the stories in this I therefore give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. Basing on the first part I recommend this book to those in the accounting and auditing field not only in the USA but across the whole world because of its first part. I also recommend it to the whole value chain of basketball and golf that is to all stakeholders of the two game across the whole world.
