The Fourth Kinetic Clairvoyants is a short read with just 298 action packed pages. Rion Grean is 17 years old and learning how to control and manipulate powers that no one knows he has. His mother frequently moves them and Rion is socially isolated with just his mom. At his new school, Dee bursts onto the scene and Rion begins to develop his first friendship. When his mother relocates them again, a military group begins pursuit of Rion, starting with a car chase and ending with Rion on his own without his mother. This leads Rion to meeting others like him and learning how to use his powers.

The story moves quickly with lots of danger and action that draw the reader into Rion’s life. As Rion meets others with powers and starts to learn how to maximize his and fight those who are after him, the story shifts and changes and leaves the reader anticipating what will happen next. Highlights from Rion’s journey begin with a car chase, a bank robbery, destroying a super prison, saving someone special to other Clairvoyants, an unlikely alliance, and finishing with him rescuing his old school and friend Dee.

There were two things that distracted me from the story. The beginning is very slow. The first 60 pages seem filled with forced character development that has little impact in the actual adventures and challenges of Rion. The other difficulty was that there were several instances where words were used that caused me to stop and try to figure out what Moore was trying to convey. One example is a lot of “glares” were going on and their use made the narrative seem like the characters were angry but in context with the storyline, they didn’t feel angry.

This book is great for older teens and young adult readers who love sci-fi. If you enjoy escaping into a book that has a hero who is relatable, this book will deliver.

I rated this book 3 out of 4 stars. I chose this rating because some of the word syntax caused me to stumble while trying to figure out what the author meant. There was some mild profanity. With a slow start and more questions than answers in the beginning, once the story started to develop it moved quickly. Moore introduced a lot of characters and plot lines, which left me with lots of questions as this book ended…. Where is Andromeda? What happened to Rion’s mom? I added this book to my reading list so I can see where Moore will take us in the next installment.
