Review of How To Be Successful
Are you an entrepreneur, starting your business? Are you struggling with leadership skills? Or maybe you are looking for some motivation in life! Then this book can be perfect for you.
How To Be Successful Think Like A Leader by M. Curtis McCoy is a non-fiction, self-help book with necessary reality checks. The author became successful at a young age and achieved his dream but everything went upside down in 2010 when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Through 185 pages of this book, the author jotted down his journey from losing everything to having the nation's best company, along with his stories of struggles, stubbornness, and life lessons. The book has 27 chapters that include various interviews with famous people, and some much-needed lessons that can inspire anyone ready to chase success.
Talking about the positive aspects of the book, it has 8 interviews from 8 different leaders of different work fields. Starting from US Navy SEAL, CMO of company, to a publisher and tech geek, the book gives a tour of lifestyle and mindset of successful people around. I loved the fact that each of them shared a different meaning of success and pressured on the importance of faith, loyalty, hard work, and learning attitude which is important for every individual in real life. Another beautiful yet very important thing that I liked is the way family was prioritized and highlighted in the book. The book also talks about self-esteem and how important it is to say no.
The chapters are supported with many biblical verses and real-life stories that prove the importance of the lessons written in the book. Nothing seemed imaginary or work of fiction on these pages. The author also busted myths around overnight success and gave simple, easy tricks to follow to become successful.
There isn't much that I disliked about the book but some of the interviews were lengthy. Other than that the language was simple, down to earth and any reader can enjoy it thoroughly. There were few errors but that will not interfere with the reading.
This book gives the basic idea of how to balance life and chase your dreams. Keeping all the above points in mind I would like to rate it 4 out of 4 stars. Anyone above 13 years of age can enjoy this book and start working on their goals. I believe this book can be perfect for someone who's reading non-fiction for the first time.
