Randy Love is good-looking, confident, and smart. Because of these attributes, women of different ages find him attractive. For the same reason, Randy rarely finds it hard to convince an employer to trust him. He seems to be the kind of person who knows how to use his charm to get his own way. Certainly, Randy the Irresistible seems to be an apt title for the main character’s story.

Written by SM Goodier, the book narrates Randy’s journey as he strives to become independent. Banking on his physical appearance and intellect, Randy believes that he would be able to succeed in his career and personal life without much difficulty. However, his approach in finding success appears to lack good judgment and concern for other people. As you get to know him well, you will realize that Randy is the opposite of irresistible. He is actually selfish and irresponsible. Most of the time, he lacks common sense in his actions and decisions. Eventually, his good fortune comes to an end and his careless choices start to catch up with him.

Surprisingly, I was not expecting to like Randy’s character after reading the book. Initially, I was even hoping for Randy to get a miserable ending. At some point, I wanted Randy to end up in a very difficult situation in order for him to learn. Yet, as the story progressed, I started to like Randy as a character. Randy is not really an evil character after all. Randy simply lacks awareness of how his actions and decisions affect people around him. He just needs someone to make him understand his accountabilities. Thus, this is what I liked most about the book. The author was able to create a supposedly unlikable character more likable towards the end of the book. Another thing that I like about the book is that the author was able to write Randy’s thinking process and experiences in a humorous manner. With his thoughtless decisions, Randy managed to turn himself as the laughingstock of the story.

I also appreciate that the author included an index of British terms and expressions. The addition of this index saved me from checking the internet every time I encounter an unfamiliar British word or expression while reading the book.

I am just slightly disappointed by the ending. I am not expecting Randy to change overnight once the story ends. I agree that it is more realistic for Randy to become a work in progress towards the end of the story. I just felt that the conclusion was done abruptly and the story ended with some things left hanging. So far, this is only thing that I disliked about the book.

I am rating this book 4 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed reading the book and I admit that Randy is one of the most unforgettable characters that I have read. The novel is likewise written well and professionally edited. I would recommend this to those who are looking for a quick and amusing story to read.
