Review of Firstborn Daddyman
FIRSTBORN "DADDYMAN" by Frank Bailey is a wonderful narrative depicting the tumultuous life lived by the author. Frank is raised by a single mum; he is a bright kid but became errant at a young age. At 17 years of age, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he did very well in the training camp. He fell out of favour with his superiors and was punished for his attitude. He later became a crack addict. He committed so many crimes including robbery, drug dealing, fraud and sexual abuse. He had multiple wives/girlfriends and had children born out of wedlock. Frank became a drug dealing kingpin that had so many enemies that wanted him dead. How did all of this happen to a bright young marine? Find out in this titillating book.
This book expresses a riveting storyline that will keep the reader at the edge of their seat until the very end. From his experience in the military to his crack addiction and even his drug-dealing days, the narrative in this book is so interesting; the reader will never get bored. In addition, Frank delivers his story with simple and concise language ensuring that the story does not become tiresome. Frank uses this memoir to convey the experiences of many young black men in the United States, essentially giving a voice to them. FIRSTBORN DADDYMAN is an unbiased and truthful narrative; Frank delivers details that are very personal for the enjoyment of the reader. This work clearly expresses the outcome of poor choices, consequently, it encourages the audience to live good lives. Another positive aspect of this book is that it is motivational; a crucial subject in the novel is "recovery". Frank teaches his audience how to recover from their failures no matter how bad the situation may be; salvation is indeed very possible and this book tells you exactly what to do.
This book is riddled with grammatical errors, hence it is not professionally edited. Another negative feature of the book is that the pace of the book at times is too fast such that the reader feels dissatisfied with the narrative or character, for instance, Frank rushes through the narrative about how he engaged in the sexual abuse of family members, leaving the audience disappointed, hence I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I did not rate it lower than this because the negative features in the book are negligible and do not substantially affect the delightful experience that this book offers.
African Americans will relate very well to this story and so I recommend it to them. I highly recommend it to folks that are going through challenging times in their lives, they will find solace and upliftment in the pages of FIRSTBORN "DADDYMAN".
