Review of Chasing The Red Queen
The novel Chasing The Red Queen by Karen Glista is about a young mixed Indian girl called Donja, who has moved away from her childhood home and has found herself with a new stepsister and stepfather. She quickly bonds with her stepsister who leads her into a world of supernatural beings, making her question everything she knew about the world and herself. She meets Torin Mancini a very old Immortal descendant who finds her intoxicating and it comes to their knowledge that another deadly predator has also set his sights on her. The two find themselves in a journey of sadness, blood, horror and the loss of loved ones as they fight for their love and protection of their loved ones.
What I liked about the book is how the author took the vampire story line idea to the next level. I liked how different and refreshing it is. In this genre books tend to be very similar but, the little twist in the book made it stand out a bit. The book is also a light read. You do not have to crack your head around the mysteries and this would be a nice book to read on a holiday.
What I especially liked was the romance. It was nice, other times very hot, which kept me turning the pages for more. The passion between the characters is electric. The beginning of the book was a little slow but, the end was perfect. That's a good job well done to the author.
What I did not like about the book is that some of the scenes feel a little forced. I am not sure why they do so. They do not come off as normal dialogue, more like someone is imagining them. Which technically that's probably what the author was doing, but for a reader to enjoy the book these scenes should feel realistic. The other negative aspect about the book are the grammatical errors which do not affect how good the book is but, shows that it is not professionally edited. I am not sure if it was the author's way of writing because several sentences did not have the correct punctuation. Since it was like a pattern probably it's their style. It somehow though affected how I read because I was now constantly coming up to a lot of them and it was becoming a little bit annoying. Another thing that I did not like about the book is how generic it felt. It's a little different, however it did not make me excited at all. Not very unique, probably something you could find in every novel. Despite all these negative points, I still loved the book. It is my favourite genre and I think it's wonderful.
I am giving this book a rating of 2 out of 4 stars because it is not professionally edited and that is very sloppy. I am also giving that rating because the book is very generic, however the little twists in the tale make it a little different and so it's quite fair.
I would recommend this book to a mature adult because it contains sexual content. I would also recommend it to people who are not offended by sexual trauma. An error found in the book is on page 17 where the author writes "She was a just a kid."
