The Legacy of Job's Wife by Cynthia J. Koelker tells a story from the Bible, but this time from her wife's point of view. Those who have read it from the Bible understand what happened. The themes of love and forgiveness are perfectly portrayed. Job was a very great man in the East, who was highly respected, adored, and wealthy. He had a very large family: ten children, hundreds of servants whom he cared for and so many animals. Everything he had was just perfect. But something happened, something terrible, in a single day all his children died, his servants and animals too died. All that he had worked for, years to years, were lost in a blink of an eye.

Ix'ises, also called Zhabella has grown up with Job as his childhood best friend and neighbor. They spend all their time together out of pure love. Job loves Ix'ises from her birth and names her out of her beautiful eyes."From the moment I first saw you, I knew you were the girl for me" "It was you - it was always you." Their families being friends, they had the best of their childhood filled with fun and memories, for instance, celebrating many birthdays together, going to town together where they make friends. Ix'ises's father gets gored by a bull which affects them even Job as he wants to help them. Later Job gets his family which he loves beyond measure till his last breath.

Despite their flourishing love for each other, they had several differences. Job and his family believed in God for everything, even for very little things which are easily assumed. They made sacrifices to God frequently to atone for their sins and thank God for their blessings. On the other hand, the Ix'ises family never did such things nor did they believe in God but had a custom of birth songs.

Ix'ises disliked killing of animals for sacrifices." Why would we trust a God who wants our sacrifices?" Ix'ises would sometimes believe there is God due to the events unfolding before her but no one would answer the questions she had to content. Ix'ises couldn't understand this "bloodthirsty deity" who would let his people suffer. Job got ailing until he cursed the day he was born. He had unshakable faith in God even without knowing the reason why such tragedies were happening, even with people saying he was cursed and his three best friends betraying him. Job's wife, her spirit being crushed and seeing Job still having faith in God, she couldn't bear therefore, she asked him to curse God and die, and she would follow him and they wouldn't have any pain to endure anymore.

The Legacy of Job's Wife explains the life of Job and his family but her wife's perspective, how she felt, and what she would think. Do you have unanswered questions about God? Why he allows people to suffer? Did the anger of Job's wife towards God end? Many people perceive her as a fool without thinking about it, I believe it takes more than courage and endurance to say "curse God and die."

The Bible-referenced story was very thrilling. I can't pinpoint what I exactly liked about this story but it was a gift as a whole. It gave me a deep view of what would likely have happened then and from the ground view of the story, many won't judge easily as we have always done. To the Christians, the story will pause a challenge of faith and forgiveness in your day-to-day life. I had a different impression of how Job was a man of people, as I didn't expect, and how he couldn't be swayed when it comes to God.

Honestly, I did not have any dislike in the book, it's among the best. There were few errors I came across though my reading was not affected at all. The book was professionally edited except for those few mistakes and also the plot was very systematic in that it didn't contradict the story from the Bible.

I rate this book four out of four stars because it is a very unique story, despite being aware of the story in the Bible, that couldn't stop me from reading It. I would recommend this Christian book to all those who have weak faith, easy to lose hope, those hurt, and to all who would like to read the same Biblical story but from a different angle. Also to all Christians who acknowledge romantic books with very minimal erotic scenes which will not be a nuisance.
