Review of Hard Journey of the Heart: Jesse's Story
[Following is a volunteer review of "Hard Journey of the Heart: Jesse's Story" by Mark Zullo.]
Hard Journey of the Heart: Jesse's Story written by Mark Zullo is an erotic story that deals with homosexuality, love, lust, jealousy, and possessiveness.
The main character of the story is Jesse de Marchi, a homosexual male who is afraid of admitting his sexuality in public. The story shows the journey of an eleven-year-old Jesse who doesn't know his sexuality to a forty-seven-year-old man who faced many worst incidents in life. Jesse's first crush Dani who was also his best friend left him years ago heartbroken. After many years, he met Carlos and was leading a happy life until Carlos broke up with him. The entry of Diego changed Jesse's life forever. Jesse is a man who enjoys having sexual relationships with strangers. He travels to Puerto Vallarta to hook up with strangers. At the same time, Jesse is a jealous and possessive boyfriend when it comes to Carlos or Diego. He wishes to lead a life where he is proud of his sexuality and cares more about love than sex. But he always ends up preferring sex more than love. He always complaints to God and even thinks that God hates him. The presence of Bill, one of his good friends provides him happiness and comfort. Dani, Charlie, Carlos, and Diego are a part of Jesse's romantic life who are always loved by Jesse no matter what. But certain incidents in his life destroy him. If you want to know how Jesse learns to cope with his problems and starts to live a good life, go for this book.
The book was an excellent one with a whole lot of interesting characters who were able to teach us something. Jesse's character was able to show us how hard it is to accept your sexuality when everyone around you makes fun of you. The support shown by his family and friends and his determination to lead the life that he chooses is an inspiration to many people who is afraid to accept their sexuality. Certain incidents in Jesse's life were sorrowful and it made me cry. The book was able to show the innocence of childhood and the mental pressures during manhood.
The story was a little bit disorganized as instead of showing Jesse's life in a proper continuation, it shows different parts of his life in different chapters which were hard to understand.
I would give it a 3 out of 4 stars as I enjoyed reading it. The characters, sexual scenes, and the storyline made me love the book. I reduced a star as it had some grammatical mistakes.
I would highly recommend this book to those who love to read homosexual novels with detailed sex scenes. Sensitive readers must be aware of extreme sexual scenes and profanity.
