Review of Learn to Love: Guide to Healing Your Disappointing Love Life
I’ve never been in a relationship for 3 years. However, that doesn’t mean I gave up completely on my love life. In fact, I’ve closed with some people during the year, but none of them went to a more serious relationship, in this case dating. We’re just friends. I have to acknowledge that I didn’t have a good relationship before, so I thought I was in a phase where I don’t want to start or have a relationship. That’s why being alone all these years doesn’t bother me at all. Therefore, when I saw this book, Learn to Love: Guide to Healing Your Disappointing Love Life, I felt intrigued to read it. I believe that it would, sort of, solve my problem. By the way, I found it surprising when I saw the author's name, Thomas Jordan, Ph.D, has a doctoral degree. I thought that love life is a silly problem that could be solved by finding the right person. I don’t even think that I need a psychologist to help me since I am not depressed or bothered by the emptiness of love, in this case, from a partner. I think I have to start thinking about what kind of person I am (laugh).
This book is really theoretical. I could feel the atmosphere of sitting in a lecture with Sir Thomas and hearing his explanation about love, as he describes in the introduction. I would say it is boring to think about being in that situation. However, after reading pages after pages, I admit that I couldn’t stop reading the book. It’s so fascinating, yet very helpful. The material is so comprehensive. There were a lot of things that I learned from reading this book. My carelessness about love life turns into curiosity, and I am glad that this book helps me understand many things that I need to know.
Nevertheless, since it is theoretical, some of my questions couldn’t be answered by this book. The book is general, while we know that it is so complex when we talk about love and everything counts. Some problems that are listed also come with no solutions. Therefore, I would still need extra readings to understand my questions or problems about love better.
I am going this book 3 out 4 stars. The reason I didn’t give this book a 4-star is a personal opinion. For me, love is a complex thing and can’t be explained in a 200-page book. Besides, this book is too theoretical and didn’t provide many solutions for a problem. There are also some situations that the author didn’t explain in the book.
I think people who will love this book so much are those who feel that they have had some bad experiences of love life in the past. This book will make them realize what’s wrong with them or why that’s happening to them, and I hope that they’ll be able to fix their love life.
