Review of Living Forward After Loss
Living forward after loss is a purposeful book from Kathleen Ho. She wrote the book to help the bereaved. She lost her husband 10 years into their marital journey. It was a moment of grief for her. At the early stage of her mourning, she went through loneliness and bitterness. On a fateful day, she was about to commit suicide but a friend came to her rescue. She decided to desist from such an odious act because she would not want her loved ones to live in sorrow, consequently. She was moved to help others, who might be in a similar situation, overcome such horrible moment.
One of the positive aspects of this book is that it gives a better definition of life. Life is like a coin with two different sides. It can either be good or bad. However, no condition is permanent. In the moment of grief, it is normal to ask so many questions regarding the demise of a loved one. It takes courage to win the battle of grief. Having a proper understanding, we can still live a happy life after a moment of sorrow. More so, the writer emphasised the fact that whatever a man experiences is as a result of his choice. Kathleen Ho discussed some practical steps which worked for her in her period of grief. Some of these steps include: maintaining a positive mindset, engagement in fruitful hobbies, helping the aggrieved overcome sorrow, among others.
Kathleen Ho believes that a thorough inward search will make the aggrieved gain a new purpose of their existence. In reality, many people merely exist. The writer challenges the readers of her book to fulfil the purpose for which they exist; that is what it means to live. Kathleen Ho appeals to sympathisers to respect the process of recovering from grief. She warns that suggestions and advice will not be appropriate at the early stage of grief. The writer further advices the bereaved not to rush into another marriage immediately they experience the loss of a spouse. This is important for the healing process to be perfected.
This book was written to help the bereaved rebuild a new life after losing a life partner. It contains many practical steps to take if a man will not be overcome in the tragedy. I did not observe any negative aspect in the book.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was professionally written by a woman who lost her husband; thus, she understands what it means to grieve.
I recommend this book to those who have lost hope of living after losing their loved ones. Life is short and it is worth living victoriously.
