Tinman is a crime thriller mystery written by Karen Black and Matt Walton. Gregory McGregor leads an ordinary life as a geotechnical engineer until one day he receives a phone call from his old friend Charley Farnsworth. After Charlie’s cryptic phone call and an unexpected package delivery, Gregory is thrust into the middle of corporate conspiracy that could cost him his life. Gregory McGregor runs into another dear friend of Charlies named Consuela “Corky” Gonzalez and the two become close allies as they try to unravel the mystery of what is happening and why there are people that want them dead. This dangerous adventure leads these two from quiet Minnesota, to the slopes of Colorado to the bustling streets of LA and all the way to remote Alaska. Danger lurks around every corner as Corky and Greg try to solve the mystery of Charlie’s nine-digit number.

I really enjoyed how the plot unfolded, and how the story took off from the very first page. This pace only quickens as Gregory and Corky delve deeper into the mystery that surrounds them. I also really enjoyed how each chapter kept me guessing who the mastermind behind everything really was. I also really enjoyed how Corky did not play the normal feminine roll in this story, she was able to pull her own weight and take control of a situation. I also really enjoyed watching how Gregory and Corky’s relationship grows throughout the book. This was its own mystery in which we are constantly left wondering will they or won’t they get together by the end of the story.

There were very few things that I did not care for in this book. One of these things was that there were periods where a character gave background stories that never really added anything to the overall story. These sections of backstory often slowed the overall pace of the book and ruined the momentum that was built with all the other action and adventure that happened prior. One example of this is when Corky tells the story about her father, the story is drawn out and in the end there is no new secret revealed or twists added to the overall plot.

I give this book 3 out of 4 stars, it was really well written and was fast paced. I also really enjoyed the mystery and adventure that the characters faced. I would give the book 4 stars but there were a few spelling errors and there were a few areas of the book that gave a lot of extra background information about the characters that slowed the pace of the novel. Despite the issue with the change of pace and the spelling errors I would recommend this book to my friends and family.

I would recommend this book to anybody that enjoys crime thriller and mystery novels. This is a good book to read while traveling, if you are looking to follow a mystery that will keep you guessing, or if you need to kill a couple of hours. I would also only recommend this book to adults due to the use of foul language and suggestive situations.
