Review of Fulfillment
ICA, the writer of FULFILLMENT, states in his introduction: “The ideas promoted here have the power to help people on their way to spiritual awakening.” Readers who are aligned with those aspirations may gain value with his writing. In this book the author shares his own spiritual truths generously and with conviction and his writing is insightful.
What is our life plan? What is life? How do we achieve our purpose? What is spiritual awakening? These are just a sample of his many questions that ICA presents and discusses. He expands on the beliefs gained from his own remembering and what he discovered his answers to the questions to be. In FULFILLMENT, we are frequently encouraged to remember, to awaken and to dispel fear in favour of love. We are urged to share this message with others too, as one of our life purposes.
Readers who favours a spiritual book written with an instructive, fairly authoritative and prescriptive tone will appreciate this in FULFILLMENT. I prefer a gentle tone, with frank questions for my own reflection, and don’t want rigid answers when it comes to matters of spirituality. My perception is that there was not much room for questioning some of the positions that the author ardently states as truth, such as: what God wants from us, or what happens to us after we pass on. I recognise that his style of writing with certainty and passion will appeal to particular readers.
Throughout each chapter, we find an abundance of wisdom. If I set the author’s personal beliefs aside for a moment, there are many gems to be found containing valuable thoughts, common sense advice and helpful attitudes for living. I warmed at re-aligning myself with this way of thinking, such as when he reminds us that we can only change the world by changing ourselves, or that our happiness is not conditioned on our surroundings but is rather a state of being. I felt myself to be much more contemplative while reading this book, I noticed a greater appreciation for nature and the simple things in life. I appreciated many of the views of being compassionate and loving that he conveyed. I am drawn to works that will challenge me to think, to question and that will stir my inner being, FULFILLMENT has touched on that that for me.
I rate FULFILLMENT, WRITTEN BY ICA, A JOURNEY THROUGH A SPIRITUL LIFE, with 2 out of 4 stars. The absence of the third and fourth star is due to the author’s opinions expressed with absolute certainty and conclusiveness, which I found in opposition to his advice for us to question everything. This book is not focussed primarily around his spiritual journey, as may have been suggested by the subtitle: “A JOURNEY THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LIFE” - instead the book is mainly a compilation of the author’s opinions on society and his spiritual beliefs, in what appears to me as a slightly random structure. There is nothing new on spiritual thinking brought to the fore, and neither is it written in an original perspective. Two stars are granted since a fair part of the book had a positive impact on my thoughts, and reading much of the content lifted me to an improved space of presence. This book could be recommended for open-minded readers who are keen to explore another’s perspective on spirituality.
