No Reprieve by Inge-Lise Goss is a very intriguing story about androids and humans and their interactions. The reader goes on a long journey throughout the novel following Paislee through many trials and tribulations with the law, her boyfriend (s), etc.

Inge-Lise Goss starts the story where the previous novel in the series stopped. Paislee, the main character, goes undercover with the help of a rebel group to try to get important information for the cause. Because we readers learn a lot about Paislee’s life as a rebel and her life amongst androids, it is not necessary to read the first book to understand what is going on. Paislee’s journey is fraught with many challenges and she must use her intelligence at every turn. The attention to detail by the author really sets up a great backdrop to a realistic and believable world where androids and humans are living and working in big cities on the West Coast of the United States.

While the story is well-written, exceptionally edited and a great read for anyone who wants an artificial intelligence thriller with a strong female lead, No Reprieve is not complex. Paislee spends much of her time in the book trying to gain the trust of someone that she does not trust herself. The novel does have some sexual imagery and sex is implied. This book is 357 pages of clearly marked chapters that has a repetitive plot. In other words, while action packed, much of the action is similar in nature which leaves the reader wanting to know more about other seemingly insignificant characters (like Ward and Tate). Instead of focusing on the character development of secondary characters and developing a plot that makes all readers feel like they are part of the rebel movement (that many can connect to), the book focuses much more on one character.

Despite these downsides, I would still recommend this book for readers because it tells the story of a strong female lead in a society that could very well be a realistic future. Unfortunately, because of the implications of sex, the book may be inappropriate for children under the age of 10 without the adult reading ahead of time.

This book deserves 3 out of 4 stars because not every reader base will enjoy this type of book.
