Review of The Shade of Highfall
Under the shadows of the duns, Shrew moved stealthily, robbing from the street vendors some of their goods, and as fast as she appeared, she seemed to disappear into the shadows again leaving a lot of chaos behind as always. Shrew, in the duns, was known for her stealing around the place and was also very fast and quick-witted for her age. But fate has a different mission for her. Cyrus Col, a priest, has some sick ideas and visions for the world and the way it is lived in. With the aid of fang weed and the backup of human power under the influence of the fang weed, Cyrus Col wants the world to heal, get salvation. This salvation is nothing but the end of life. Destruction is waiting ahead if he succeeds in getting salvation. Two stories unravel to make a great historic event the world would remember. What has destiny saved for Shrew? Will Cyrus Col succeed in his scheming? Mark O’Dell in his spectacular book “The Shade Of The Highfill” has it all. This fantasy fiction has a great amount of adventure and the thrill you need. The twists and turns in the story are mind-blowing. All in all a great book to start with.
As humans, we have a very good imagination and make up things in our mind which may not be able to exist in the real world. But to bring out all of it and to put it into words and sentences is a great deal. It's never easy to make other people understand what you’re thinking and make them imagine things like you do. Mark, with his excellent description, makes it possible to point the things. His expanded knowledge of vocabulary has made it easy for me to get a grasp of the various situations and the places described. The best part is the book has some small maps of Highfall and the places around it. Those maps make it even easier to locate the places and understand what’s happening. The book was short and perfect for fantasy. And not to forget, this book is professionally edited. There are zero flaws grammatically, which makes reading easy.
I don’t like books that have a lot of descriptions to start with. The number of dialogs delivered is very less when compared to the description part. The more description the more things add up to the story which makes it a little bit messy. Yes, the book has a great story but it would be even great to have the characters speak more than writing a great amount of description about them. Another negative point accountable here is the story has certain scenarios which are too raw, making this book not suitable for kids. It would be recommendable for all without those particular parts.
When it comes to rating this book I would give it a “ 3 out of 4 stars”. Taking into consideration all the positive aspects i.e, the very well-written body of the story, the rich use of vocabulary, zero grammatical errors which make it easier to read on. The description of the characters is amazing but lengthy as well. All tho the ending was predictable the way Mark has put it in his creative way is beautiful. The very long descriptions disappointed me. And even at particular parts of the story, the scenes are very raw in contexts of sex and violence, and even abuse. Example: page 129 has a mention of mild sexual content.
This is a very good book if you read your kids good night stories. That way you can cut out the details which you don’t want them to know. Fantasy is a genre that attracts all age groups because it gives you the freedom to imagine and put yourself in places where reality may not. You can do the same while reading this book too. Some of us ate productivity nerds, for them, this book could be a nice break from work or studying. For someone who’s looking forward to improving your vocabulary, this book is perfect for you. A dreamer who has all kinds of fantasies made up in your mind will love reading this one.
