Review of The Maestro Monologue
The Maestro-Monologue is written with the aim of encouraging the reader to observe and examine, then have genuine and difficult conversations about themselves. Throughout the book, you are provided with insights through actionable steps of self discovery that are broken into four parts. A major part of the book points to personal responsibility and taking action. You are reminded that the will power is inside you and that it takes personal effort to get rid of things or issues that are holding you back. This book challenges you to measure to what extent you are willing to push yourself .For you to achieve your desired outcome, you must recognize the role you have to play in your relationships, financial, health and spiritual goals.
The use of a conversational tone creates a smooth flow of the ideas presented in the book. The author addresses you directly using easy to read sections making it easier to grasps the concepts discussed in the book. Secondly, the use of repetition helps to put emphasis on points making them easier to comprehend and remember. Robert White, uses elements of poetry which is evident in the way he describes and explains things. You are forced to read his sentences differently and you can even visually and practically participate in the activities he suggests.
What I don't like about the book is that the author took a long time to fully introduce religious content. It's introduction far into the book makes you wonder if he decided to approach his subject from a totally different angle. He should have incorporated his spiritual interpretation at intervals such that all the chapters carry a harmonious message. Apart from that, some ideas or examples are either presumptive or don't put into consideration that some things are out of one's control. An example will be from this statement,"I can-NOT spell,"what are they really saying? They are insisting they most definitely will NOT put in the effort to learn how to spell."Clearly this shows that the author is ignorant of people living with learning disabilities.
I am giving this book a rating of 3 out of 4 as the book was not well edited. I found a number of spelling and grammatical errors as seen from the following sentence."When the intruder is in charge, you can be sure your emotions will push you right off the edge of a cliff every time."
I recommend this book to anyone in between. If you are looking to address your internal conflict with a little scriptural interpretation, this could be a book for you. Since I didn't find any instances of vulgarity or sexual content, I would also recommend this book to readers of all ages.
