The Spirituality Puzzle by James Rondinone and Renee Rondinone, is an in-depth analysis on the concept of salvation belief. The book answers basic fundamental questions on whether salvation is obtained through repentance by water, baptism or Godly works. Finally it examines the subject of dwelling in Christ and the final judgement. The authors analyse the lives of various characters across a spectrum of timelines in the bible, starting with the age of the gentiles up to the age of the church in which we are currently living. The diverse dispensations are an expression of the divine view points of human history.

The authors examine specific characters within the bible to determine whether they had a relationship with God or fellowship with him. Furthermore, their motivation for fellowship with God is revealed. It is succinct that God entrusts different individuals throughout the various dispensations with the gospel dissemination, failure to which results in God ending one dispensation to usher in a new one.

The first dispensation; the age of the gentiles, reflects upon the time period of Adam and Eve to the exodus of the Jews out of Egypt. God is referred to as Yahweh in this particular dispensation and according to the authors it is evident that men during this time period did have a relationship and fellowship with God. The book examines the reasons behind their convictions and presents an unbiased view points of the characters’ convictions. The second dispensation; the age of Israel, presents followers ho governed by statutes and the Decalogue, which are the ten commandments revealed to Moses on Mt. Sinai. The subsequent dispensation of Christ precedes and the life of Christ is examined from the time of his birth, to the day of Pentecost, where Christ ascends to heaven and the holly spirit is sent down to his disciples. The final dispensation is the church age in which we are currently living in.

The book quotes various verses from the bible, lending credence to the authors’ in depth understanding of the subject of salvation. The questions that are posed at the end of every chapter, inclines the reader to want to find out more concerning the subject. There are several positive aspects which can be deduced from the book, key among them being the role of faith in our daily lives. The book is highly recommended to christian based institutions and individuals seeking to find Christ and therefore salvation.

One negative aspect about the book is while the title is, The Spirituality Puzzle, the book is biased towards the Christian religion. The authors should have therefore adopted a different title that speaks to the subject of salvation. However, I acknowledge the authors’ background being christian.

I will give the book a rating of three out of four and I would recommend it to Christians who are seeking salvation from God. I believe that through the numerous teachings that have been highlighted, the book can be a wholesome tool to the seekers of salvation.
