Review of The Trafficking Murders
The Trafficking Murders by Brian O'Hare is a suspense thriller novel about investigation on murder, sex-trafficking and slavery. The story begins with a murder investigation which further leads to dead ends.
Jim Sheehan, the head of a police investigation team starts investigating a murder of an Asian girl whose whereabouts are unknown. The whole story is about the investigation of the murder which links to more murders and reputed personalities of the city. Along with that, a 19-year-old girl’s story of how she is forced into becoming a sex slave goes hand-in-hand. The investigation unfolds networks of influential people involved in illegal tactics. The book unravels the dark side of our society – the side where people are sold and bought and where people are forced to do things without consent.
How were illegal practices being practised without the government noticing? Or is the government themselves involved in it? How did Sheehan and his team find out about the culprit? Were they able to catch the culprit? Read the book to find the answers to all these questions.
The author has done an amazing job describing the different characters. Though the book is a work of fiction, I could visualise the various emotions of the characters. The love, suspense, agony – everything felt surreal. The author also provides information about trafficking and slavery in the foreword which further aroused my interest. The author also included the list of characters and acronyms in the beginning which helped me throughout the book. The story had a lot of twists and turns which increased my interest in the book. Each chapter created more interest in the story and I was hooked to the story till the very last.
The story had abrupt changes sometimes but that did not affect my amazing reading experience. Other than that, I could not find any noticeable flaw in the book.
What I liked the most in the book was Matei. His extraordinary courage and bravery was inspiring and his intelligence made me like him even more.
The book was well-edited as I found just two errors. So, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this book to people who are fans of fiction and are interested in thriller stories. It is a must-read for people who like stories of investigation. But the book has instances of sexual abuse and murders, so I would not recommend this book to people sensitive to it.
