Review of The Different Kinds Of Monsters
The Different Kinds Of Monsters by Seth Chambers is a science fiction that revolves around the life of Dylan Armitage and the various experiences he had in his life. The fantasy brings in creatures from the Mesozoic era and reveals how his life is entangled with the prehistoric predators that threaten him and his family. The story deals with his attempts to protect his family from danger.
Seth Chambers justifies the plot by developing it into an exciting and captivating story. It has a steady sense of development and a great build-up for the climax. Each character is well defined and each event in the story justifiably contributes to the various character developments. Appropriate detailing of the characters and the scenarios helps the reader to visualise the scenes in their minds. Although the frequent timeline change is difficult to track at first, the author manages to mould the reader to get used to it. The intriguing characters as well as the intense events at regular intervals keeps the interest of the reader and instils an exciting thirst for the climax.
The regular change in the timeline is difficult to follow at first. Although it is mentioned in the title of each chapter, the reader gets confused if he mixes up the timeline, which is highly probable at first. For all the excitement and build-up for the climax, it feels dissatisfying. The reader is left with a feeling of incompleteness. It is so abrupt that it feels like a few pages are missing. The pace picks up towards the end of the story indicating an action-packed ending but it turns out to be disappointing.
Personally, the book is a must-read. The interesting plot along with great characters and steady story development would not leave the reader bored. It hooks you onto the story from the very first and it remains that way till the end. But the climax felt upsetting. Given all the build-up for the finale, I was left to wonder if I had the whole version of the book.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. Although the book was really good, the ending was too hasty. It would have been a full score if the climax was better. The book is professionally edited, ensuring a smooth reading experience.
The book is inappropriate for children as it has sexual and abusive content. The book is suitable for both new and experienced readers and adults. Readers interested in Dinosaurs(Jurassic age in general) and fresh ideas in science fiction and fantasies might find the book interesting.
