Through a beautiful introduction, prose that moves you, and illustrations that speak volumes, Anna-Karen Sorensen M.D. introduces us to the experience that is the life of the babe.

We ask ourselves questions like: are we just going through the motions of life, or do we lack a deeper appreciation for it? Anna tells us that it is by re-weaving forgotten memories that we can fully appreciate life. This re-weaving can take the form of mourning, or it can be a co-creative process. Whichever form it takes, ultimately, it is an appreciation of what has been. To enjoy this eye-opening read, grab your copy of A Fate Unwound Too Soon: Glimpses of the Divine today!

At first glance, this book may seem a lot to take in. The title leaves us asking several questions. What is this fate unwound too soon? What are these glimpses of the Divine? Worry not, for the answers you seek will be revealed to you by the end of the book.

The text is divided into an introduction, followed by fifty-seven poems, and what I would call an epilogue at the end. There are tons of images of different babies within the book that seamlessly accompany the text and drive the message home. There are also one-liners sprinkled within the book that the reader can ponder as they turn the pages. Capital letters are used in-between lines for emphasis, and text in some of the poems is aligned differently for visual aesthetics.

I loved this book for several reasons. One, it is short. Two, I found zero errors in the whole book, and I congratulate whoever edited this book. Three, the book has been written engagingly. The reader will feel as if they are part of the narration, whether the conversation is between a mother and her unborn child or when a person is simply talking to themselves. A piece that caught me by surprise was Rounds at Bed C, and I recommend you check it out. Very unique. Throughout my reading, I have tried to remember what it has been like for me when I see little ones, and my appreciation for life has increased.

The only nuance I found was the little confusion I experienced in poem number sixteen. The order of the stanzas seemed a little off until I figured it out. To give A Fate Unwound Too Soon a lower rating would not suffice. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to people wanting to get a first hand experience into the lives of premature babies and lovers of good poetry. I hope you enjoy it just as much, or more than I have, if you pick it up!
